The Assistant, Accounting will primarily assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of transactions. The ideal candidate for this position is a self-starter and familiar with bookkeeping procedures and software such as Quickbooks. The Assistant, Accounting will process a variety of financial transactions and reports while paying close attention to detail.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Facilitate accounts receivable process which includes sending invoices, tracking received payments, running reports of outstanding balances, and communicating the status of sponsorships to the Chapter Team.
- Process incoming checks and prepare deposit reports to be posted to the general ledger.
- Coordinate gift processing with the Development Team to ensure accounting records match the constituent database.
- Enter expenses into accounts payable software, code expenses accurately, and obtain appropriate approvals.
- Process expenses and send outgoing check payments to vendors.
- Serve as the point of contact for all vendors’ accounts receivable departments.
- Export and prepare disbursement reports from various online portals to reconcile with weekly bank deposits.
- Monitor multiple email inboxes to ensure timely correspondence and recording of financial transactions.
- Assist with preparing financial reports and annual 1099 reporting as needed.
- Maintain state charitable registrations and workplace giving campaigns and submit applications as needed.
- Serve as local backup to in-office financial duties and other duties as assigned.
- Provide phone coverage for ZERO main line.
Desired Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Basic knowledge of accounting, bookkeeping, or finance.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Familiarity with accounting software (Quickbooks and BILL knowledge is a plus).
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet software

- Excellent communication skills and ability to work across teams/departments.
- Ability to use multiple cloud-based systems (Google Workspace, Raiser’s Edge, Luminate Online, Slack, etc.).
Minimum Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of accounting, bookkeeping, or finance experience.
- Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in accounting or finance preferred, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
Physical Requirements:
- Constant use of a computer and other office productivity equipment, such as computer printer, calculator, and copier.
- Prolonged periods of a stationary position at least 50% of the time.
- The ability to recognize details at close range for extended periods of time.
- The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

This role will report directly to the Director, Finance and will work closely with the Operations Team to support ZERO’s mission to end prostate cancer.
This position is hybrid and preference will be given to candidates that live within the greater D.C. metro area. Travel to our headquarters in Alexandria, VA will be required at a minimum of once per week.
