The Prostate-Friendly Plate: How to Eat Healthy This Nutrition Month

The Prostate-Friendly Plate: How to Eat Healthy This Nutrition Month

March is National Nutrition Month, and it's the perfect time to make healthy, sustainable changes to better our overall health. For prostate cancer patients, proper nutrition is especially vital. Studies show that obesity can double the risk of dying from prostate cancer and quadruple the chance of metastasis. A nutritious diet can:

  • Reduce treatment side effects,
  • Speed healing,
  • Strengthen your immune system,
  • Help maintain a healthy weight,
  • Possibly even reduce your risk of recurrence.

Although never a replacement for treatment, maintaining a healthy diet can significantly improve one's quality of life. What does a healthy diet look like? It means eating a rainbow of vegetables and fruits, choosing whole grains, limiting processed foods and sugary drinks, and striving for lean proteins like fish, beans, and low-fat dairy. A registered dietician can tailor an eating plan to your unique needs and provide practical tips for overcoming treatment-related eating challenges. This month, and all year round, strive to nourish your body with delicious, vibrant, whole foods. Your prostate (and the rest of you) will thank you!

Highlights from ZERO’s Advocacy Summit

Highlights from ZERO’s Advocacy Summit

Last week’s ZERO Advocacy Summit kicked off by honoring the outstanding impact of top advocates and fundraisers at the annual Bold for Blue Awards ceremony. It was incredibly inspiring to see our community come together to celebrate and cheer each other on.

After hearing from leading medical experts on the latest prostate cancer advancements and receiving advocacy training, Summit attendees met in person with their elected officials to help advance new legislation and research funding that will save men's lives.

Seeing our mission in action with nearly 140 dedicated ZERO advocates from around the country crisscrossing Capitol Hill to share their stories was very powerful. You can still help us be louder and bolder to make prostate cancer a national priority by adding your voice. Reach out to your representative to urge them to take action now.
