Corinne is the new Director of the East Coast Metro Chapter. Please join us in giving Corinne a warm ZERO welcome! Champion Spotlight East Coast Metro Mickey Moran, the newest Champion for the East Coast Metro, was honored as the mission speaker for the South Jersey Run/Walk. Mickey has jumped into his role as a ZERO Champion and we are glad he is now a part of the ZERO family Mid-Atlantic Maryland-based Champion Bob Jacobs is using his time and voice to educate others about prostate cancer. We’re seeing Bob at Farmers Markets in DC conversing with people about their PSA numbers, prostate cancer risks, and advocating for their health. You can read Bob’s story here. South Atlantic Charlotte Run/Walk Race Committee Member Bob Lane wanted to engage more patients and invite them to join the Run/Walk. So he came up with a plan. With the support of the Urology Specialists of the Carolinas, Bob stationed himself at the office outside of the elevators on days when the Prostate Cancer Clinic was held. He was able to talk to patients as they came from their appointments about ZERO’s support programs and invite them to join others at the Charlotte Run/Walk. Local Events/Advocacy/Health Equity PSA testing was made available at the North Jersey, Rockland County, and NYC Run/Walks this year by Mount Sinai. The Philadelphia Run/Walk also had PSA testing on-site hosted by Penn Medicine Mid-Atlantic Thank you to the chapters of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. that supported ZERO Prostate Cancer in 2023. The Zeta Sigma Chapter in Baltimore donated $5,000 to ZERO Prostate Cancer through the CIAA donation drive competition with the National Panhellenic Council of Metropolitan Baltimore. Organizations that won the contest received funds to donate where they felt compelled, and the Zeta Sigma chapter chose ZERO, driven by the prostate cancer rates in Black men and the health equity work ZERO is doing. The Zeta Sigma Chapter also attended the first Prostate Cancer in the Black Community Film Screening event in Baltimore as well as ran and walked in the Dr. Sanford J. Siegel Prostate Cancer Run/Walk. The Zeta Chi Sigma Chapter (Prince George’s County and Metropolitan DC) hosted its inaugural Stronger Together 5K Run/Walk for Men’s Health Awareness with $1,000 of the event proceeds donated to ZERO. Fundraising Team ZERO Updates On Sunday, November 5, twenty-one athletes represented ZERO in the TCS New York City Marathon. Throughout their journey to 26.2, they raised over $64,000 for the prostate cancer community. Congratulations to everyone involved!
