Position Summary

ZERO is looking for immediate help in assisting with the Run/Walk portfolio. This is a full-time role with a focus on driving fundraising, sponsorships, and event management of Run/Walk events as part of ZERO’s National Run/Walk Series. 

This role will report to the Vice President, Field Revenue and will focus on supporting the Run/Walk Series in developing relationships, securing sponsors, and stewarding teams and registered participants. This position will jump into Run/Walks when assistance is needed.  

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Lead existing volunteer committees and build new executive volunteer committees to assist with the fundraising and production of each Run/Walk event within the portfolio. 
  • Executing sponsorship renewals, prospecting and cold calling to bring in new business for the ZERO Run/Walk Series. 
  • Monitor the performance of fundraisers and fundraising teams to ensure timely responsiveness to new registrants, recognize fundraisers, encourage competition, and to spark new ideas to deepen fundraising results. 
  • Develop and execute grassroots outreach plans to attract participants, teams, and sponsors with a vested interest in the cause. 
  • Develop and execute volunteer plans for pre-race and race day; recruit, assign, manage, organize, train, and communicate with event day, event planning with the strongest emphasis on recruitment and management of executive committee members.
  • Make outbound touch-points including phone calls, cards, texts and emails to increase the number of participants for events, increase the percent of participants fundraising and the average fundraising amounts.
  • Work to identify prospective fundraising teams and engage them in meaningful and impactful fundraising efforts for portfolio of events. 
  • Steward team captains and individual participants to increase and strengthen fundraising efforts for portfolio of events.  
  • Request, secure, and manage fundraising, sponsorship, and in-kind donations as needed. 
  • Attend in-person meetings and events as needed.

Desired Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to mobilize and motivate individuals to achieve goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for growth in relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively over the phone and occasionally cold call as needed. 
  • Proven ability to build and maintain a portfolio of donors.
  • Experience in managing volunteers.
  • Ability to comfortably request donations and sponsorships.
  • Excellent and well-demonstrated project management skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work across teams/departments.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 30% within the assigned territory by car. Travel in this case, is considered time spent away from the office, in the community, to fulfill the job goals. While most such travel is same day, overnight travel and air travel will be required. Must have valid driver’s license, access to reliable vehicle, good driving record and proof of automobile insurance

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Administration, Hospitality Management, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • 3+ years of demonstrated professional experience in empowering individuals to fundraise through peer-to-peer style events within a nonprofit organization. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with run or walk event management.
  • Experience with fundraising databases such as Luminate Online/TeamRaiser and Raiser’s Edge. 

While candidates from across the U.S. are welcome to apply, preference will be given to candidates based in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, San Diego, Los Angeles, or Baltimore, as this role will require in-person engagements and events in these areas.

Physical Requirements

  • Constant use of a computer and other office productivity equipment, such as computer printer, calculator, and copier. 
  • Prolonged periods of a stationary position at least 50% of the time.
  • The ability to recognize details at close range for extended periods of time.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Frequently move boxes and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds at events such as Run/Walks.
  • Frequent movement across multiple different terrains/surfaces while outdoors at Run/Walks.

This role will report directly to the Vice President, Field Revenue and will work closely with the Chapter team to support ZERO’s mission to end prostate cancer. This position will require nationwide travel approximately 30% of the time.
