Film Viewing: The Silent Killer October 27, 2024 Chicago, Illinois Sunday, October 27, 20244:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. CTZERO hosts the Prostate Cancer in the Black Community film screenings throughout the country, using public viewings to highlight and raise awareness about prostate cancer within the Black community.Following the screening, we will have a discussion that includes the film's writer/director, Landi Maduro, along with local doctors and researchers and a prostate cancer survivor. These expert panelists will discuss the film and how prostate cancer affects the Black community, as well as provide suggestions as to what each of us can do to address some of the significant barriers and disparities the Black community faces regarding prostate cancer.The audience is encouraged to take part in the discussion so we can work together to make a difference for Black men diagnosed with prostate cancer. This documentary seeks to change that. The filmmakers went to barbershops, beauty salons, churches, and social gatherings across the US to talk to Black men from all walks of life. In addition to these discussions, the film follows three different Black men at three different ages and stages of prostate issues. Through their stories, the hope is to educate men and dissolve the fear of being open to discussing their health. Meet the Director Landi Maduro is an award-winning writer, director, and producer who has worked in the film industry for over 10 years. Her documentary The Silent Killer: Prostate Cancer In The African American Community is currently streaming on Tubi TV and Amazon Prime. The award-winning documentary was screened for the Congressional Black Caucus and has been used by healthcare professionals and scholars to educate on the health disparities African American men face in dealing with prostate cancer.
