Breaking News from the Supreme Court

Today, the Supreme Court released their final decisions of the current term, including a long-awaited decision about insurance coverage of preventive services. The decision kept intact the requirement that insurers cover without cost sharing all clinical preventive health services given an A or B rated recommendation by the United States Preventive Services Task Force. 

The case, Kennedy v. Braidwood Management, hinged on the Appointments Clause of the Constitution. I’d advise the SCOTUS devotees here to read the full decision, but I’ll jump right to what this means for the prostate cancer community. 


First, the USPSTF is the group that makes recommendations about clinical preventive services. They recommended against prostate cancer screening in 2012 (a D rating) and gave a more neutral recommendation in 2018 (a C rating).
