4th Annual ZERO Des Moines Tee-Off Success! September 2, 2021 Wow, what a turn out we had at the ZERO Des Moines Tee-Off event on Monday, August 23 at the beautiful Legacy Golf Club in Norwalk, IA. With 140 golfers in attendance, we had our biggest turnout yet. Every year, we are blown away with the community’s support and their willingness to come together to make a real impact in the fight to end prostate cancer. Together, we were able to raise over $37,000 this year for prostate cancer patients. As a prostate cancer survivor myself, I knew the work that ZERO Prostate Cancer was doing, was critical in providing resources to men and families who had been affected by prostate cancer. It was 4 years ago when I decided to help plan the first ZERO golf event in Des Moines. I never would have imagined what this event would turn into over the years. With events like this, we were able to increase the reach and impact that ZERO would have in the greater Des Moines area. In November 2020, we were able to launch a new program for men in Iowa, ZERO Drive. This program provides gas cards to patients with a prostate cancer diagnosis to be able to get to and from their medical appointments.I want to give a huge shout out to our presenting sponsors, Urology Center of Iowa, Broadlawn’s Medical Center and KIA Des Moines. Thank you to Dr. Brian Gallagher and Dr. Mark Kellerman from UCI who spoke to our golfers about the importance of early detection and the impact prostate cancer has on men and their families. KIA Des Moines decided to take a bigger role this year after a prostate cancer diagnosis hit close to home with one of their employees, Jason Clary. KIA Des Moines even brought out a car to give away to any lucky golfer that would have shot a hole in one.We had lots of giveaways to give to our golfers from various donors throughout the greater Des Moines area who donated items to the event. A big shout out to JE Dunn, our lunch sponsor, who provided all golfers with lunch and custom lunch bags to take home. We have been so humbled by the enormous support we have received from the people and companies if Iowa. Even the golf Tee signs and event signage was donated from a local vendor whose father has just gone through a prostate cancer treatment.Prostate cancer will impact 1 in 8 men during their lifetime, which is why we fight to end this terrible disease. In addition to our presenting sponsors and lunch sponsor, I want to thank all of our amazing sponsors for their contribution and support of the event! A note from ZERO’s Midwest Chapter Director:“I am blown away by the amazing success that the 4th annual Des Moines Tee-Off event brought this year. The way that the Des Moines community comes together is something so rare to see. The sponsors and companies who donated items for the event created something really special that will directly help men in Iowa who are impacted by Prostate Cancer. Our committee chair and ZERO Champion, Bill Miller, has completely outdone himself. I got the pleasure of working alongside him and got to see his passion and dedication to making a difference come to fruition to create something that will ultimately save lives. Bill spent countless hours recruiting sponsors, reaching out to the community for donations, and organizing all the logistics to make this FUN event a huge success. I couldn’t be more proud of this incredible man who is the definition of selfless and passionate. Thank you Bill from myself, ZERO and all the men who you will be helping from the funds raised.” Thank you to all who helped us: Blog Posts Help & Support Spreading Awareness ZERO Tee-Off Events Contributor Emily Sybrant, Former Staff (Director, Regional Chapters) Emily was Director of Regional Chapters at ZERO Cancer from 2018-2024.
