Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has signed a new law requiring insurance companies to cover prostate cancer screening at no cost for men at high risk, with the bill named in honor of survivor David McElhaney and AL.com columnist Roy S. Johnson. The law, which takes effect October 1, ensures free PSA tests and digital rectal exams for men over 50 and for high‑risk men over 40, including Black men and those with a family history or genetic risk.
