ZERO Prostate Cancer Applauds Introduction of the POPCaP Authorization Act

ZERO Prostate Cancer proudly supports the Precision Oncology Program for Cancer of the Prostate (POPCaP) Authorization Act, which was introduced in the Senate on Friday by Veterans' Affairs Committee Chairman Jerry Moran (R-KS) and in the House in April by Representatives Greg Murphy, MD (R-NC) and Herb Conaway, MD (D-NC). This landmark legislation takes a critical step forward in ensuring that veterans battling prostate cancer, the most common cancer diagnosis among those who have served, receive the advanced, personalized care they have earned.

Veterans face a disproportionate risk of prostate cancer due to service-related exposures, and African American veterans bear an especially heavy burden, with twice the diagnosis rate and twice the mortality of their peers. By permanently authorizing and expanding POPCaP, including the creation of seven new centers of excellence, this legislation will extend access to precision oncology, genetic testing, and clinical trials to veterans in communities across the country.

ZERO commends Senator Moran and Representatives Murphy and Conaway for their bipartisan leadership and urges Congress to move swiftly to pass this bill. The research breakthroughs generated through POPCaP will not only transform care for our veterans, but they will also benefit all American men facing this disease.
