The ceremony was held on Friday, March 4,to kick off the ZERO Prostate Cancer Summit, the most impactful and largest nationwide event for the prostate cancer community.The Bold for Blue Awards, sponsored by AbbVie, is the only national awards program that recognizes prostate cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers for their efforts in fundraising, advocacy, and community impact. This year’s ceremony featured four award categories including Legacy, Top Fundraisers, Impact, and Megaphone Awards, as well as the first-ever Edward C Kaps Hope, and Caesar Blevins Warrior Awards.“The 2022 Bold for Blue winners have all gone to great lengths to improve the lives of the many patients and families facing prostate cancer,” said ZERO CEO Jamie Bearse. “Our Bold for Blue winners stepped up to help the prostate community during the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic, as they faced prolonged and extraordinary challenges like never before. Kaps Hope Award for their exemplary dedication, service, and giving hope to prostate cancer survivors and their families were Kathie and Dave Houchens of Columbus, OH; Jerry Deans of Gainesville, GA; and Anthony Pizzoferrato of Las Vegas, NV. This year’s Legacy Award was presented to Us TOO International, which merged with ZERO in 2021 to increase prostate cancer awareness and advance research and access to care through a united advocacy platform.The recipient of the first-ever Caesar Blevins Warrior Award, inspired by and named after a prostate cancer super-advocate who passed away in April 2021 was Jim Wilhelmsen of Mesa, AZ for his devotion and passion to end prostate cancer.
