Philly joins national movement to end prostate cancer

Prostate Cancer Run/Walk Raises Funds and Awareness during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

Philadelphia, PA – ZERO Prostate Cancer joins MidLantic Urology in hosting the ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk in the Philadelphia area on Sunday, September 8. The goal of the race – part of a national event series – is to inspire the creation of Generation ZERO, the first generation of men free from prostate cancer. Philadelphia-area community members will run and walk together to fight a disease that takes the life of an American man every 17 minutes.

For the first time, Philadelphia joins 40 communities across the nation as part of the ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk series. The Run/Walk promotes awareness for prostate cancer and educates men about their risk. This year in Pennsylvania, nearly 7,500 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, and nearly 1,500 will die from the disease.

“The ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk rallies communities and gives participants a voice in the fight to end prostate cancer,” said ZERO CEO Jamie Bearse. “We’re making prostate cancer a national priority. The Run/Walk series is a way to mobilize the prostate cancer community and raise funds for patient support programs to ensure that no man has to face prostate cancer alone.”

Run/Walk participants are invited to participate in a pre-race stretch with Edge Fitness, and post-race yoga with Fit for Mom. Participants will also receive t-shirts, prizes, and free food and samples from Monster Energy Drinks and SmoothieKing.

A special ceremony for patients and survivors serves as the heart of every event, which allows prostate cancers survivors, caregivers, and patients the chance to connect with one another. During the ceremony, country music star Jimmy Charles will perform his new song “We Are Warriors.”

Funds raised during the Run/Walk event benefit local and national efforts to provide research for new treatments, direct patient support, and prostate cancer education. More than $4M was raised in the 2018 ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk series.

Races begin at 9 a.m. at Wilson Farm Park, located at 500 Lee Road, Wayne, PA, 19087. For more information, visit http://zerocancer.run/philly
