Cancer Groups Call on Congress to Reject the Proposed Elimination of CDC Cancer Efforts June 3, 2025 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEMedia Contact:Stephanie S. This work matters not only for the nearly two million Americans diagnosed each year, but also for the countless people who love them and all Americans who may one day face a cancer diagnosis.Chronic disease is a real threat to the health, happiness, and economic security of Americans. Now is the moment to deepen–not diminish– our commitment. Eliminating support for cancer registries won’t reduce the number of cases in our nation, but it will render them invisible. Eliminating support for breast, cervical, or colorectal cancer screening won’t reduce the actual number of cases, but it will leave them undiagnosed, progressing undetected to more advanced stages with more costly treatments and worse outcomes. Eliminating support for cancer education and awareness won’t make cancer unimportant, but it will leave millions of Americans without the knowledge and power to be proactive about their own health. We urge Congress to reject the proposed elimination of the CDC’s Division of Cancer Prevention and Control, and to fully fund our national investment in cancer prevention.
