Position summary

ZERO is seeking a strategic and dynamic Director, Marketing to play a key role in driving impactful and inclusive multi-channel campaigns that elevate our mission and engagement efforts nationwide. This position will collaborate across teams to create and deliver a marketing strategy that expands our impact across communities at risk, prostate cancer patients, survivors, and their families to help save more lives.

 The Director, Marketing plays a critical role in lead generation by attracting and engaging new people to the ZERO community. With Black men being at the highest risk for prostate cancer, we are looking for an innovative marketer who can tailor marketing strategies to authentically address the unique needs and cultural nuances of diverse communities.

 

Role Responsibilities

  • Create and execute multi-channel, marketing campaigns and assets centered in health equity to promote early detection, disease awareness and education, ZERO’s advocacy, outreach, support programs, and other mission priorities.
  • Drive direct response programs by setting messaging priorities, determining campaign strategies, testing priorities and audience segmentation, and measuring ROI to meet and exceed lead generation goals.
  • Oversee and optimize digital strategy, including display advertising, retargeting, and paid social ads, in close collaboration with the social media team.
  • Direct and optimize email marketing strategy across the organization with drip and nurture campaigns to drive mission engagement and the mission volunteer lifecycle.
  • Direct and optimize ZERO’s website content development to maximize acquisition, engagement, and retention.
  • Oversee the annual marketing calendar, collaborating across teams to schedule and execute multi-channel campaigns, including emails, print pieces, social, and other assets.
  • Create, maintain and update a dashboard report to track KPIs across all channels.
  • Oversee all design and creative services requests and fulfillment to align with standard branding guidelines, meet established deadlines, and evolve systems as needed.
  • Lead marketing deliverables for corporate partnerships and collaborate with the partnership team to meet goals and metrics.
  • Manage assigned marketing budget line items.
  • Manage and mentor an effective team of direct reports.
  • Manage relationships with external agencies and vendors as required.

  • Proven ability to think strategically, listen and learn proactively, take initiative, and constantly seek ways to enhance and innovate.
  • Experienced people manager with proven success in training, leading, coaching, developing, and managing the performance of direct reports
  • Proven skill in distilling complex information into compelling, easily digestible narratives; presenting information in an inspiring and persuasive way.
  • Proven ability to listen and respond to develop mutual understanding and trust. 
  • Experienced in fostering an environment where different opinions and approaches can be entertained, considered, and appreciated while working as a team to find a resolution.
  • Exceptional ability to work in teams and collaborate – both remotely and in person.
  • Demonstrated success in learning eagerly, sharing knowledge generously, and improving continuously.
  • Exemplifies ZERO’s culture of humble, hungry, and smart.
  • Familiarization with email tools, AB testing, segmentation, and Blackbaud products, including Raiser’s Edge.
  • Proficiency in Associated Press (AP) Style of writing.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 7+ years of professional experience in marketing and leading teams and projects at a national nonprofit or relevant organization.
  • Demonstrated expertise in cultural humility and developing marketing campaigns for marginalized communities that met or exceeded goals.
  • Working knowledge of promoting federal and state advocacy efforts. 

Physical Requirements

  • Constant use of a computer and other office productivity equipment, such as a computer printer, calculator, and copier. 
  • Prolonged periods of a stationary position at least 50% of the time.
  • The ability to recognize details at close range for extended periods of time.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

This role will report directly to the Chief Marketing Officer and will work closely with other Directors across the team to support ZERO’s mission to end prostate cancer. 

This position is based remotely, and candidates may live in any area within the United States. This position will require nationwide travel approximately 10% of the time (once per quarter).
