While we know that it’s nearly impossible to cut that much from Medicaid funding without having an impact on the individuals it covers, an $880 billion cut doesn’t mean much unless we understand the policy changes necessary to achieve it. We do not yet know what the cut will look like - Congress just returned from a district work period and will begin negotiating. Speaker Johnson has shared a goal of having a bill on the president’s desk by Memorial Day (though this goal has already started to slip - House Majority Leader Steve Scalise just said "We'd like to have it on the president's desk by June.”). This means we’re looking at just a few weeks for the House Energy and Commerce Committee to hammer out the policy changes that result in $880 billion in cuts. Read More...
