Portrait of Peter O'Connor

Peter O'Connor

Glen Cove, NY

Peter O'Connor is a recurrent prostate cancer survivor. He was first diagnosed ten years ago and underwent 45 days of external beam radiation. After seven years, the cancer recurred as an advanced, aggressive cancer. He was treated with brachytherapy and 26 months of androgen deprivation therapy. The great advances in diagnostic tools and treatment showed him the importance of research, and he also realized the importance of early detection, which he believes saved him. Peter knew he needed to spread awareness. Recently, early myeloma was detected during his quarterly visit with his medical oncologist. Again, early detection saved him. Today Peter is living with no evidence of prostate cancer and will continue to be a voice for men facing prostate cancer.
