Prostate Cancer Run/Walk Raises Funds and Awareness during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

St. Louis landmark

St. Louis, MO – The ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk is returning to St. Louis this September. The goal of the race – part of a national event series – is to inspire the creation of Generation ZERO, the first generation of men free from prostate cancer. Hundreds of community members will run and walk together on Saturday, September 14, to fight a disease that takes the life of an American man every 17 minutes.

St. Louis joins 40 communities across the nation as part of the ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk series that are taking place during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month in September. The Run/Walk promotes awareness for prostate cancer and educates men about their risk. In Missouri, over 3,500 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year.

“The ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk rallies communities and gives participants a voice in the fight to end prostate cancer,” said ZERO CEO Jamie Bearse. “We’re making prostate cancer a national priority. The Run/Walk series is a way to mobilize the prostate cancer community and raise funds for patient support programs to ensure that no man has to face prostate cancer alone.”

Run/Walk participants receive t-shirts, free food, and prizes, and the opportunity to connect with others impacted by prostate cancer. Additionally, runners and walkers can create special memories in complimentary photo booths.

A special ceremony for patients and survivors serves as the heart of every event. Funds raised during the Run/Walk event will go toward local and national efforts to provide research for new treatments, direct patient support, and to educate men and families about prostate cancer. More than $4M was raised in the 2018 ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk series.

The race will take place by the sailboat cove of Creve Coeur Park, located at 13725 Marine Ave., St. Louis, MO, 63146. For more information, visit http://www.zeroprostatecancerrun.org/stlouis. Race programming begins at 8:30 a.m., with the Run/Walks commencing at 9 a.m. The Empowerment Network is the race’s local beneficiary.
