Baltimore, MD – In an interview with WJZ-TV in Baltimore, urology legend Sanford Siegel, M.D., CEO at CUA Opco, LLC, announced for the first time that he has been diagnosed and treated for prostate cancer.
Dr. Siegel is the founder of the ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk Series, the largest men’s health event series in the country. He was instrumental in the creation of the Run/Walk Series with Chesapeake Urology’s first event in Baltimore in 2006. Over a decade later, the series has grown to more than 40 cities across the country.
“Sandy is an inspiration to patients, families, doctors, and other urology practices across the country. He is a pioneer in uniting groups from many backgrounds in the fight against prostate cancer, and we’re thankful to have him in the ZERO family,” said ZERO CEO Jamie Bearse. “His tireless dedication to spreading the message of early detection, as well as his enthusiasm for the Run/Walk series, is unparalleled. We know that he’ll take on this challenge as he has many challenges before – with strength, heart, and determination.”
As a prominent leader in the urology space, Dr. Siegel has dedicated his life to helping the prostate cancer community in Baltimore and beyond, and has touched countless lives by going the extra mile to fund research, provide free screenings, and to educate at-risk communities about this disease. Now as a patient and survivor of the disease, his passion and leadership will continue to positively impact lives.
The 12th Annual ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk – Baltimore will take place on Sunday, September 23 with a goal to raise more than $1M. It is the highest grossing event in the series’ history, having raised more than $4M in the last 11 years. This year’s race theme is: “It’s Personal!” in honor of Dr. Siegel, and thousands are expected to participate.
