Wayne Anderson, the longest-running sheriff in Sullivan County's history, conceded defeat and told News 5 that he had prostate cancer. "It's been really hard, a lot of pressure," Anderson said in Aug. 2018. "I found out I have cancer in May, so now I've got to take care of that."

One year and 30 treatments later, Anderson is cancer-free. "When you first hear it, that you've got cancer, it devastates you," Anderson said. "But now that I went through all the treatments and I know that I'm cured of the cancer, I'm as joyful as I can be."
