Honoring Military Veterans

Honoring Military Veterans

Statistics show that military personnel are more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer. As we honor Veterans Day, ZERO has released two new videos aimed at helping our military heroes better understand prostate cancer as part of our ever-evolving resources for this important population.

The first video explains the increased risk of this disease for Veterans. The second video provides a guide to the care and support available after a diagnosis. Please watch and share these videos with a Veteran in your life.

Additionally, visit the Veterans Resources page on our website for a VA benefits guide and an updated Veterans Prostate Cancer Guide—a brochure created by Veterans for Veterans that provides information about the risk of prostate cancer and treatment options.

Empowering & Supporting Caregivers

Empowering & Supporting Caregivers

Caregivers from around the country gathered in Chicago recently for our first ZERO+One Caregiver Retreat. This in-person event brought together spouses, partners, sons, daughters, and friends of prostate cancer patients to educate and connect those who understand the unique struggles and triumphs of a cancer journey.

The ZERO+One gathering was timely, as November marks National Family Caregivers Month. In honor of this special month, ZERO has created a new Tips & Resources Guide for Caregivers. This quick guide empowers caregivers with information about managing doctor's visits, communicating with their loved ones, and understanding the importance of self-care.

Two Landmark Prostate Cancer Bills Signed Into Law

Two Landmark Prostate Cancer Bills Signed Into Law

In Delaware, HB 302 has been signed into law by Governor John Carney and bill author Rep. Stephanie T. Bolden. ZERO's Vice President of Government Relations, Ali Manson, and our coalition partners, witnessed this historic moment at the Carvel State Office Building in Wilmington on October 28. A special shout-out to Gary Pippin, our brave advocate who testified for the bill.

In Washington D.C., Mayor Bowser signed Bill 25-229, which provides cost-free coverage of one prostate-specific antigen test and digital rectal exam per year, also prohibiting any health insurer from imposing a deductible, coinsurance, copayment, or other cost-sharing requirement for prostate cancer screening. This bill was introduced by Councilmember Charles Allen and had the support of the entire D.C. Council. This is what happens when we come together to fight for what matters!

National Family Health History Day

National Family Health History Day

This Thanksgiving, consider adding an important topic to your dinner conversation: your family's health history, particularly regarding prostate cancer. Thanksgiving is also National Family Health History Day.

Family history significantly impacts prostate cancer risk, as men with a first-degree relative diagnosed with prostate cancer face a two to three times higher risk. Take a moment to complete ZERO's Prostate Cancer Family Tree - this valuable tool can help you map out your family's cancer history, including breast, ovarian, and pancreatic cancers, which share genetic links with prostate cancer.

Understanding your family health history empowers you to make informed decisions about screening and lifestyle choices. While you can't change your genes, you can take proactive steps to manage your risk. This holiday, serve up some important health conversations alongside the turkey; it could be the most valuable dish at the table.
