Journey to ZERO November 27, 2023 The ZERO Run/Walk 2023 Series has officially wrapped up for the year! With over 30 events this fall, we made a positive impact on the prostate cancer community across the nation. From Boston to Sacramento to Tampa, hundreds of participants joined their community to ZERO out prostate cancer. We are grateful for the support and commitment we received from everyone who made these events possible. Check out these highlights from our 2023 Run/Walk events!Twin CitiesThe Twin Cities Run/Walk raised more than $139,400, surpassing their initial goal of $95,000. There was amazing turnout for the event and the celebration continued at the Minnesota Twins game that afternoon. ZERO participated in throwing out the 1st pitch, raising the territory flag, and sharing our message about the importance of early detection on the scoreboard! ChicagoThe weather was not on our side for the Chicago - SEA Bleu Run/Walk. The event was canceled due to thunder, lightning, and flooding the morning of the event. Although we couldn't be together in person that day, many participants came together with their teams and made the most of their day. Our host partner, UroPartners, LLC hosted a drive-by event at a later date where many Run/Walk teams picked up their shirts and took pictures with us! The Chicago event raised over $191,000!RockfordThe Rockford Run/Walk was a fantastic event on September 30th! All of the physicians at Rockford Urological Associates joined us to celebrate. The community was thankful we were there to share the message about prostate cancer. It was a beautiful morning along the river and breakfast was a huge hit with Chick-fil-A sandwiches! The Rockford event raised over $43,000!Kansas CityThe Kansas City Run/Walk took place at Children’s Mercy Stadium on September 24th. We are grateful for ZERO Champions Vivian and John Avery for holding down the ZERO table. Our incredible host partner Kansas City Urology Care, P.A. and Kansas City Proton Institute were amazing in their planning for the event. Participants enjoyed Country Rock artist Jimmy Charles who sang We Are Warriors. The Kansas City community came together and raised over $112,000! St. LouisThe St. Louis Run/Walk was an exciting event with our new host partner, SLUCare. The event occurred on September 30th and raised close to $60,000. The St. Louis Run/Walk would not have been as successful without the help from our partners, the Empowerment Network, Program for the Elimination of Cancer Disparities and 105.7 The Point. HoustonThe first 2023 Texas/Oklahoma Chapter Run/Walk took place in Houston on September 9th. The event hosted over 300 participants and raised $90,000. We are thankful for our host partner, Houston Metro Urology, for making a huge impact in the prostate cancer community! San AntonioThe San Antonio Run/Walk had beautiful weather for their event on September 17th at Mission County Park Pavilion. We managed to avoid the excessive heat warning that Texans endured for months. The event was a huge success, surpassing last year’s registration numbers with 324 participants and raising over $78,000. The Men in Nursing from Galen College of Nursing swept the prize categories with the Largest Team (51 members), Third Place in Team Fundraising ($1,238), and Rookie of the Year! AustinThe Texas/Oklahoma Chapter hosted the Austin Run/Walk at Concordia University on September 23rd. It was a great event with over 200 participants, raising $85,735. The Dick’s Sporting Goods in Cedar Park provided gift cards for the first finisher (Bo Price, Telix), first patient/survivor finisher (Jay Gaddy, Team J-Bird) as well as many recognition prizes. Our sponsor, Urology Austin, provided an amazing breakfast for everyone, and our fantastic volunteers brought energy and extra support. TylerThe Tyler Run/Walk was an incredible event on September 30th. There were 175 registered participants as well as many helpful volunteers and sponsors. The highlight of the event was ZERO Champion Bruce Caughron bringing each survivor on stage to “Let’s Get Ready to Rumble” with a fighting name, boxing gloves, and a photoshoot. The Tyler community raised over $62,000! Fort WorthIt was a cold, rainy day for the Fort Worth Run/Walk on October 28th, but it did not stop us from supporting our mission. The event took place at Trinity Park and was partnered by Texas Radiotherapy. The event raised over $77,000!Napa ValleyThe Napa Valley Run/Walk was a record-breaking event, raising $145,000 with over 350 participants! It was a beautiful and impactful morning seeing all the hugs, tears, and inspiring energy felt by all. We want to thank Team Frednecks and Launch, Inc. for their incredible fundraising efforts to raise more than $25,000. SeattleThere was a great turnout for the Seattle Run/Walk on September 23rd. Our sponsors Overlake Medical Center and Fred Hutch Cancer Center provided wonderful support for the event at Seward Park. The Seattle community came together to reach as many patients and families as possible, raising over $123,000! Sacramento The Sacramento Run/Walk was at William Land Park Village Green on November 11th. With over 250 participants, the community honored not only the patients and survivors who are fighting, but also the veterans who have been impacted by prostate cancer. It was a close battle for the number one for the top Fundraising team between Team Doug and the Greater Sacramento Support Group Team, both raising more than $2,000.San DiegoThe San Diego Run/Walk at De Anza Cove was a terrific event!. There were over 130 participants who joined us to make an impact in the fight against prostate cancer. The mighty community raised over $66,000! BakersfieldZERO Champion and 12-year prostate cancer survivor, Leonard Zasoki, put on an outstanding Bakersfield Run/Walk on November 4th. The event was at California State University Bakersfield Outdoor Amphitheater and had more prostate cancer patients and survivors than ever before. The Bakersfield community truly rallied together to make a real impact, raising almost $60,000!North JerseyOur amazing partners, including our host partner Valley Healthy, contributed to a fun event at Liberty State Park on September 30th. Bayer had an awesome turnout with more than 60 team members and raised more than $19,000. The Jersey City University Gothic Knights were in attendance, supporting one of their own and our mission speaker, Jeffery Jordan. The North Jersey Run/Walk raised over $90,000.PhiladelphiaThe Philadelphia Run/Walk took place at Wilson Farm Park on October 1st. It was a tremendous success with record-breaking fundraising efforts as the community raised more than $114,000. MidLantic Urology helped put on a spectacular event for the Philadelphia community. South JerseyThe South Jersey Run/Walk was held at Valenzano Winery on November 5th. The Fighting Men, Fighting Cancer team came out strong to the event, representing more than 90 members. The team finished the day by pieing one of their team members with over 50 pies, wrapping up their fundraising efforts of $5,000+. The South Jersey community raised almost $80,000! WilmingtonWilmington kicked off the Run/Walk season for the South Atlantic Chapter on September 9th at Lone Leaf Park. There were over 100 registrations, and the event raised more than $53,000! We are extremely grateful for the support by our sponsor, Front Street Brewery and our host Urology Associates of SENC.CharlotteThe Charlotte Run/Walk took place at Armored Cow Brewing on September 23rd. The outstanding event had 380 participants and raised over $127,000 for prostate cancer patients and families! Our host practice, Urology Specialists of the Carolinas as well as our sponsor and teams contributed to the success! RaleighThe South Atlantic Chapter also had a Run/Walk in Raleigh on October 21st. The event took place at Lake Raleigh near the campus of NC State University. There were more than 225 participants, raising $78,352. Associated Urologists of North Carolina helped make the event memorable for the Raleigh community. BostonThe Boston Run/Walk occurred on September 10th at Newton City Hall and was hosted by long-time partner, Greater Boston Urology. It was an impactful event having over 250 participants and raising $127,000! ColumbusHosted by Central Ohio Urology Group, the Columbus Run/Walk was on September 17th. It was the first year back in Columbus since the last Run/Walk in 2017. The event was successful as over 100 participants came together and fundraised close to $65,000. Mid-Atlantic ChapterOur Mid-Atlantic Chapter had amazing Run/Walk events in Hampton Roads, Arlington (Capital Area), Lehigh Valley, Harrisburg, and Baltimore! With support from Dendreon, all the events were huge successes. Southeast ChapterThe Southeast Chapter had phenomenal Run/Walk events for 2023! It started off with the Tampa Run/Walk on September 16th with more than 200 participants and raising over $75,000. The following weekend was the South Florida Run/Walk at Tamiami Park with over 275 participants. The event raised the highest amount in South Florida Run/Walk history with over $117,000! On September 30th, Augusta finished off the Southeast Chapter Run/Walk season with over 100 participants and raised over $57,000.
