We are Bold for Blue!

On Sunday, February 24, 2019 ZERO Prostate Cancer rolled out the “blue” carpet for the inaugural Bold for Blue Awards.  The awards highlight outstanding champions who have made a bold impact in the fight against prostate cancer with their fundraising efforts.  These fundraisers allow ZERO to reach more of the men that need help, and also further research to put an end to the disease.

It was my great pleasure to emcee the awards program and recognize twenty of our most outstanding ZERO Champions!  Teams from ZERO’s national Run/Walk series, do-it-yourself event organizers, and Team ZERO endurance athletes were honored.  ZERO also paid special tribute to three men who are prostate cancer pioneers and have gone above and beyond for the cause. William A. Schwartz – ZERO founder and former CEO who spearheaded ZERO’s creation, Sanford J. Siegel, MD – founder of the ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk series and recognized leader in urology, and Dr. Rev. Wesley S. Williams, Jr. – the first African-American Chairman of ZERO’s Board of Directors, all received Legacy Awards for their passionate commitment and dedication over many decades.

Here are a few of my favorite moments from the Bold for Blue Awards Celebration ...

ZERO rolled out the sparkly blue carpet and cheered on our winners as they came through the spirit tunnel!  This is Mark Hagenbuch, a stage IV prostate cancer survivor, who leads the Team Angus clan in raising more than $12,000 to help men like him!

Our candle lighting ceremony was a special way to honor and remember those we have lost as well as those we are fighting for.  From my vantage point on the stage, it was beautiful to see all our blue lights united in the mission to end prostate cancer.
