Atlanta Is Back: 2023 ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk May 31, 2023 Atlanta is BACK! The Atlanta Run/Walk event took place on Saturday April 15, 2023 at Chastain Park. Over one-hundred people gathered to show their support for the prostate cancer (PCa) community. This event was a testament to the resilience and determination of our participants. They are continually dedicated to raising awareness about prostate cancer and finding a cure.Premier Partner AbbVie has been by our side as the Premier National Partner for 16 years. They were thankful for the opportunity to support ZERO's mission to eradicate prostate cancer. In fact, they are already thinking about how they can further their involvement in the future. AbbVie wants to help make a difference for their patients and community. Their high level of commitment sets the standard. We applaud medical professionals following suit because it is essential to winning the war against prostate cancer and supporting those who are affected by it.Our local partners, including City of Hope, Accord BioPharma, Dendreon, Cobb EMC Foundation, Janssen, and Merlin Wealth Management significantly contributed to the height of our success in Atlanta. We are also truly thankful for our national partners: Bayer, Novartis, Pfizer Oncology, Tolmar, Myovant Sciences, AstraZeneca, Lantheus, Lilly & Astellas Oncology. The highlight of the day was witnessing 15+ prostate cancer survivors and their caregivers honored for their efforts (as pictured above).Another thing we have to brag about; we raised over $68,000. These funds will go towards supporting the PCa community and promoting awareness about the disease. According to the American Cancer Society in 2023, more than 288,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer nationwide, with over 9,100 of them being in Georgia. The shocking statistics don't stop there. 1 in 8 American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Black men are 1.7x more likely to be diagnosed with and 2.1x more likely to die from prostate cancer than white men. The good news is if caught early, more than 99% of people diagnosed with prostate cancer will be alive in five years. The Atlanta Run/Walk was a fantastic event that brought together the PCa community in Atlanta for the first time in almost ten years. We are grateful for the support and dedication of everyone involved and look forward to next year’s event. The Atlanta community will be back even bigger next year.
