WASHINGTON, D.C., June 3, 2019 — ZERO – The End of Prostate Cancer is honored to add Don Slaght to its Board of Directors. Slaght is a prostate cancer survivor, a mission-driven fundraiser, and is responsible for helping establish a greater presence for ZERO in New Jersey.
“Don is a selfless advocate. He’s raising awareness, he’s fundraising, he’s working with lawmakers to improve research funding and access to care, and he’s raising our profile in the Garden State,” said ZERO CEO and President Jamie Bearse. “We’re thrilled and honored to have him part of the ZERO Board of Directors.”
Diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2016, Slaght almost instantly jumped into action and initiated a relationship with ZERO. In just a few years, he’s become an integral part of building ZERO’s presence in New Jersey. Most recently, he and his wife, Sarah were honored at ZERO’s Bold for Blue Awards in Washington, D.C. Their inaugural Tee-Off Against Prostate Cancer event raised nearly $30K. Slaght is also a charter member of the New Jersey Champions for ZERO, a dedicated group that sponsors events and raises awareness about prostate cancer.
“Raising more money means we can help more men with prostate cancer,” said ZERO Board of Directors member Don Slaght. “As someone who faced this disease myself, I know how critical ZERO’s efforts are to ensure patients get support today and research funding for tomorrow’s new and better treatments. It is an honor to join ZERO as a board member to continue growing our impact for the men and their families who are fighting prostate cancer.”
Slaght is no stranger to the charity world. He’s a two-time former chairman of the Board of Directors of Special Olympics New Jersey and has a legacy of giving back to his community.
ZERO’s Board of Directors also includes Robert Ginyard, Dr. Alicia Morgans, Col. Paul Taylor, Sherry Galloway, R.N., Leo Giambarresi, Ph.D., Jonathan D. Schwartz, Cheryl Nikituk, Tom Hulsey, Ed Lomasney, Dr. Kelvin Moses, Thomas Bognanno, and Dr. Brad Lerner.
