Do it Yourself Fundraising: Turn Passion Into Action to End Prostate Cancer

Do it Yourself is no longer just for home improvement! ZERO is thrilled to announce the launch of our updated Do it Yourself website aimed at mobilizing those who wish to join the fight to end prostate cancer in their own unique way.

By participating in DIY, partcipants who wish to raise funds for ZERO can do so in any way you choose! You can honor a loved one with a tribute fundraiser, dedicate your birthday, anniversary, wedding or other special occasion to helping end the disease, and much more. Users can also take a look at what other past DIY-ers have done for inspiration and ideas – the sky is the limit!

In addition to the many options available to DIY-ers, each June ZERO encourages those who live in an area that does not have a Run/Walk event or those who are unable to attend to create their own race with Do it for Dad. This year, ZERO’s new portal will make those events easier than ever.

Explore your DIY options today.

Visit our screening partner Buddhist Tzu Chi Medical Foundation for more photos and information on where men in California can find the vehicle.

Advocate Spotlight: Don LaFollette Spreads Awareness in South Florida

Don LaFollette is a 45-year-old father, husband, business owner, and paraglider pilot. He also has metastatic prostate cancer. Since getting involved with ZERO at the Prostate Cancer Summit in Februrary, Don has begun raising awareness in his community through health fairs and other community events. His passionate effort to connect and share hope with other patients and help inform men of their possible risks for the disease is an inspiration to ZERO and those around him.

“Getting connected with ZERO was an eye-opening experience for me,” said Don. “At first, I didn’t know just how serious my Stage IV prostate cancer diagnosis was. Once my doctor discovered my cancer had spread and I started chemotherapy, I had lost hope. I was sitting at home waiting to die when I found out about ZERO. After attending their Summit in DC, I learned about three new drugs for late-stage disease like mine and now have hope.“

Demystifying Your Diagnosis

For a man newly diagnosed with prostate cancer, understanding all of the treatment options available can be difficult. That’s where ZERO comes in! Join us tomorrow at 4 p.m. EST for a Twitterchat where you can ask the experts all of your newly diagnosed questions. Visit @ZEROCancer on Twitter and follow the hashtag #PCADiagnosisChat.

Then, on May 16, ZERO Medical Advisory Board Member Dr. Kelvin Moses and Monica Bryant host a webinar on the when, why, and how of genomic testing. Register for the webinar here, and even if you can’t make it a recording of the session will be emailed to you.

In the mean time, visit our fact sheet with questions to ask your doctor once you’ve been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
