Summit 2021: A Smashing Success!

Thank you for a great ZERO Summit!

ZERO’s first-ever virtual Summit was a huge success with more than 15 hours of planned programming that highlighted support and connection, education, and passion for the prostate cancer cause. From February 28 through March 4, more than 1,500 people tuned in from around the world to learn about the latest in prostate cancer research, cancer policy, and more. Plus, dozens of attendees were able to meet with their elected officials virtually to discuss why prostate cancer is important to them.

Highlights of this year’s event included:

This year’s Summit featured amazing support from passionate fundraisers who individually raised more than $1,000 to help further prostate cancer research and advocacy. Thanks to Suzie Schlernitzauer, Brandon Wilhelmson, Mark Thompson, and George Washington for their inspiring efforts and actions to help patients in need. And another big congratulations goes to Daphne Bingham, a first-time fundraiser who raised almost $900 for men and families! In addition, a special thanks to all of our dedicated sponsors, speakers, and Summit Ambassadors who all served tirelessly to make the Summit a success.

Next year’s Summit is planned as an in-person event from March 6-8, 2022, at the Gaylord Resort & Convention Center in the greater Washington, D.C. area. Stay tuned for future updates about registration, programming, and more.

Congratulations to the Bold for Blue Winners

Meet the Bold for Blue Winners

Each year at the Summit, the Bold for Blue Awards ceremony kicks off the week-long celebration and action-fueled event for prostate cancer advocacy and education. The annual ceremony recognizes awardees in three categories: Legacy, Impact, and Bold for Blue. All awardees are honored for their significant impact in the fight against prostate cancer through their unstoppable fundraising and outreach.

This year’s Impact Award winners all raised awareness and fundraised for prostate cancer in creative ways. Congrats to Stephanie Mueller of Ohio, Freddie Muse, Jr. of California, and Meghan Nikituk of Virginia on being named this year’s recipients from an impressive field of nominees.

This year’s Legacy Award winners were the “Daughters 4 Dads” of Napa Valley (Sarah Dunn, Amy Donaldson, and Julie Tofte) who have made it their life mission to eradicate prostate cancer from their community.

The 25 Bold for Blue winners span the country, and are all ZERO’s top fundraisers across various programs and events, from Grow and Give to Run/Walks and more. Congratulations to all and click below to meet the winners!

Take Action and Advocate

ZERO Advocacy Week

With several historic prostate cancer measures up for legislative progress this year, every week is an advocacy week here at ZERO! You can join ZERO in making history and bettering the lives of patients and families nationwide by taking action on the below measures.

  • Support Prostate Cancer Research Funding:
The Prostate Cancer Research Program is the most impactful federal funding for prostate cancer research. Ask your Representatives to sign the Bishop-Dunn Dear Colleague letter, or ask your Senators to sign the Menendez-Crapo Dear Colleague letter.
  • Increase the CDC’s Prostate Cancer Outreach to High-Risk Men:
Ask Congress to increase the CDC’s funding for outreach to high-risk prostate cancer communities. Fill out this form to ask for congressional support.
  • Cosponsor the PSA Screening for HIM Act Today:
The PSA Screening for HIM Act would ensure screening coverage is provided with no cost sharing requirements to African-American men and men with a family history of prostate cancer. Please ask your Representatives to cosponsor H.R. 1176.
  • Create a Clinical Pathway at the VA:
The Prostate Cancer Treatment and Research Act requires the VA to establish a clinical pathway for the nearly half a million Vets in the VA system with prostate cancer. Complete this form to tell your Representatives to cosponsor this legislation when it is introduced.

Thank you for advocating on behalf of the 3.1 million patients nationwide battling prostate cancer right now. Your support is invaluable to the many families counting on you to make a difference in this fight.
