Throwback Thursday: A Spring Run/Walk Season to Remember

This year marks the 10th anniversary of our Run/Walk series, and we’re celebrating nationwide with a record number of races across the country! From the kick off of the Inaugural Run/Walk in Hartford in April, our spring Run/Walk season has been full steam ahead! Since that first race in Connecticut, we’ve held eight races in Chicago, Portland, Salt Lake City, Atlanta, DC, Syracuse, and Los Angeles, which is only the start of the nearly 40 we’ll have this year.

The success of our Run/Walk events would not be possible without the invaluable members of each community that come together to join us in the fight for men and families affected by the disease. We have had the good fortune of many dedicated, fantastic fundraisers whose hard work is invaluable to achieving our mission.

With more than $600,000 raised to-date, we’re looking forward to a wonderful fall season (which actually begins this August in Lehigh Valley and Cleveland!) We’re thankful for the more than 4,000 participants who joined us this spring, as well as our fundraisers, survivors, advocates, local businesses, sponsors, and especially our amazing urology practice partners – we couldn’t have done it without you! Don’t forget to check out the photos from all of our spring events on our Facebook page.

Visit our Run/Walk page for more information on our upcoming fall races.

You Inspire Us!

As we hit the mid-point of 2016, we’re reflecting back on the patients, survivors, family members, and supporters we’ve met throughout the year.

In our journey to zero prostate cancer cases, each and every person we meet inspires our fight to end the disease. Your strength, tenacity, and determination propels us forward – we’re fighting for you! From the men and families we connect with at our run/walk, endurance events, and advocacy Summit, to those who come to us through social media or after a diagnosis, we love to hear your stories and to make your voice heard in our journey to ZERO.

This month we want to share the stories of two prostate cancer survivors involved in our Endurance program, who compete and fundraise for some of our toughest events. Meet Peter Crescenti, a long-time Endurance participant and fundraiser, and Tom Hulsey, a Dallas-area local and IRONMAN participant, here.

Conference Updates: A Q&A with Dr. Tomasz Beer

Following this year’s American Society of Clinical Oncolony (ASCO) Conference, we sat down with a member of our Medical Advisory Board, Dr. Tomasz Beer of Oregon Health & Science University, to talk about the major highlights and topics discussed at the conference with regards to men with advanced prostate cancer. Read the Q&A here.

Striving Toward ZERO!

The importance of educating at-risk men about prostate cancer and spreading the message of early detection can not be overstated. Generous supporters to our Save A Man campaign will help us reach our goal of saving 30,000 men this year by spreading the life saving message about the risks of prostate cancer through in-person education tables in towns across the country.

“My Dad’s cancer was already advanced when he was diagnosed – he lost his battle after only 14 months. Help support the Save A Man campaign to empower early detection to save Dads everywhere.” – Tara Nikituk, ZERO Advocate and Top Fundraiser

Treatment Options for Localized Prostate Cancer: What Do You Choose?

When you’ve been diagnosed with localized prostate cancer, choosing the right treatment option for your disease is just as important as catching your cancer early. Between surgery, external radiation, brachytherapy, HIFU, cryotherapy, active surveillance, and other options, it can be confusing and often stressful to decide on the best course of treatment.

Dr. Kelvin Moses and radiation oncologist Dr. Eric Shinohara, both from Vanderbilt Cancer Center, are here to help with a free webinar, which will provide information on how to balance treatment effectiveness, side effects, convenience, and costs.

This webinar will take place on July 13 at 3:00 p.m. ET/12:00 p.m. PT. All registrants will receive a recording of the webinar. Register today!
