After a brief stint in the fashion industry, Vanessa decided to dedicate her career to helping those in need. She made the leap to nonprofits in 2004, and she’s spent the past two decades working on causes ranging from children’s charities to HIV/AIDS, to lung disease and cancer, eventually finding her passion fighting to ZERO out prostate cancer.
Vanessa started with ZERO in 2016, when the chapter program was in its infancy, as the California Chapter Director. Riding the growth wave ever since, she successfully grew the California area from four to eight races, adopted new races in Salt Lake City, Portland, and Seattle, and created the West Coast Chapter back in 2018. As momentum and attention for the cause has grown, so has Vanessa, who was promoted in late 2019 to manage chapter staff and strategic direction of the program nationally. With a team of five, which will quickly grow to seven by mid 2020, Vanessa is excited to have a strong team of chapter directors working hard to make ZERO a household name across the country.
When she’s not working with her team, she can be found training for an upcoming race, volunteering, or working on a DIY project with her young daughter. She has an equal love of wine and traveling – especially when it’s to countries with good wine! In 2017 Vanessa was nominated for a Humanitarian Award by Leroy, a prostate cancer survivor and ZERO champion, and it was awarded by the South Bay Consistory No. 314 at their Founder’s Day banquet.
Vanessa loves connecting with others and creating lasting relationships. If you have any questions about the chapter program, please call her (818-473-5351) or shoot her an email.
