Raising four kids over the last 30 years certainly kept Mary busy, but she always made volunteering a priority. So much so, that she’s donated more than 20,000 hours to causes near and dear to her heart. It’s no surprise she started her career at ZERO as a volunteer.
She’s always been passionate to serve others and make a positive difference in their lives, no matter how large or small the opportunity may be. When a refugee family of nine found safety in the U.S. but needed everything, and we mean absolutely everything for their ‘new home’, Mary jumped on it. Aided with the help and generosity of her church community, Mary’s coordination resulted in a ‘full house’ for this family, even down to a patio set for their backyard.
Mary serves as ZERO’s Marketing Production Assistant providing support across the Marketing Team. She’s always searching for great photos, a touching story, and content for us to share with prostate cancer patients and their families through our multi-media campaigns.
Mary’s father-in-law was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer and she is well aware that some prostate cancers are hereditary. Now that she works for the leading prostate cancer nonprofit, she’ll be extra vigilant to make sure her husband and three sons are educated and proactively manage their health.
Even though their children have grown and moved out, life hasn’t slowed for Mary and her husband. They love their life in Old Town Alexandria (Zero’s HQ) and are enjoying all the restaurants and their almost-daily walks to the Potomac River. When they do find time to travel, it will most likely be to visit their two grandchildren who they love to spoil rotten. If you have a great story to share or are interested in volunteering at ZERO, shoot Mary an email at Mary@ZeroCancer.org.
