Director of Communications

ZERO is seeking a strategic and dynamic Director of Communications to direct and execute communications including fundraising and awareness campaigns, media relations, website, and collateral to help grow the organization and take it to new heights. This position will play a key role in managing and expanding ZERO’s brand and reputation.


  • Direct and create integrated, cross-channel fundraising, awareness, and acquisition campaigns to attract and engage multiple audience segments leading to measurable organizational growth
  • Lead ZERO’s website content development and design to maximize engagement and acquisition
  • Oversee day-to-day press relations and proactive outreach to increase national visibility with thought leadership pieces including op/eds to help establish ZERO as a household name
  • Serve as primary writer for annual report, fundraising direct mail pieces, peer-to-peer campaigns, online appeals, impact reports, newsletters, and other collateral and messaging
  • Spearhead the collection, creation, and integration of prostate cancer community stories into fundraising campaigns and suite of materials and online assets
  • Serve as the Communications liaison with other teams on messaging and packaging existing and new resources and services
  • Create and provide media training including key talking points, PSAs, and customized media toolkits to staff, organizational ambassadors, spokespersons, and partners
  • Champion ZERO’s established brand guidelines and organizational key messages to ensure continuity and adherence across all communications
  • Support and advance internal messaging to reinforce clarity and alignment across organization
  • Serve as a clearinghouse for all external messaging as primary editor and proofer
  • Mentor and lead direct reports including a graphic designer and other communications professionals as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s a plus
  • Minimum five years managing communications at a national nonprofit
  • Superior writing, editing, and oral communications skills
  • Demonstrated expertise in the creation, execution, and evaluation of national fundraising and awareness campaigns that met and/or exceeded goals
  • Tech-savvy and data-driven in decision making
  • Strong track record of implementing and managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently
  • Flexibility in adapting to changing priorities
  • Familiar with AP Style
  • Ability to travel as a ZERO ambassador
