Nicola Howard’s father was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2000, at the age of 73. Seven years later, he lost his battle with the disease after his cancer spread to his bones and brain. Nicola and her siblings flew to England to be by his side. There, Nicola dedicated herself to fighting for the men and families battling the disease that took her father’s life.
When I had the opportunity to make a difference in the fight, I jumped on board.
Several years after her father’s death, Nicola was approached by the head of Delaware Valley Urology to begin a Run/Walk in their area. Nicola jumped on the opportunity, and so the ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk – New Jersey was born. Nicola helmed the event – as well as an eventual ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk in Delaware – as the Race Director for several years, most recently at Brandywine Urology Consultants, where she served as Chief Operating Officer. A veteran of the urology space, her hard work and dedication to the event allowed ZERO and its local partner to bring much needed prostate cancer awareness to her local community.
Nicola is a strong advocate in the fight to end the disease and joined ZERO’s Board of Directors in 2013, where she continues to advocate on behalf of the patients and families battling prostate cancer.
Anything that I can do to change the face of prostate cancer, I will do.
