Laura McKaig got her start in men’s health physical therapy while working at a skilled nursing facility. It was a prostate cancer survivor and a Veteran who helped her realize that pelvic floor PT was more than “women’s health” and was needed by men as well. As a result, she [created] one of the first geriatric pelvic physical therapy [programs] in her area.
In 2018 she started her own private practice, Laura McKaig Physical Therapy LLC, in Overland Park KS. Her practice specializes exclusively in pelvic floor rehabilitation. She became involved with ZERO through The Prostate Network group in Kansas City. Laura is also proud to be part of the Veterans Community Care Network, allowing her to provide this specialty physical therapy to our veterans. Laura graduated with a Masters Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Kansas Medical Center. She has over 250 hours of advanced training in assessing and treating male and female pelvic floor disorders including prostate cancer rehabilitation. Her experience in teaching and communications reflects her passion as an educator and speaker. Laura offers in-person and online workshops and classes to fitness and healthcare professionals as well as to the community. In addition, Laura is an outspoken advocate for men’s health awareness. She is working to create more available pelvic health resources for men. She is currently writing a book for prostate cancer survivors struggling with incontinence; release date is slated for Spring 2022! She is also creating a website dedicated to men’s health physical therapy, www.menshealthpt.net
