Miles for Mike

In the fall of 2017 Mark Kramsky heard those dreadful words: “You have prostate cancer.” After his initial diagnosis, Mark needed no time at all to take action. Soon after, Mark had his prostate removed and began his lengthy recovery with his supporting wife, Karon, by his side.

It was during recovery that Mark and Karon decided they needed to do something more. They’d known so many others in their lives who’d been affected by this horrible disease, and they wanted to make a difference for men like Mark. With the generous help of Karon’s brother, Steve Choikhit, as well as their friends and family, Mark and Karon got started. Together they planned a bowling fundraiser to spread awareness and raise money for ZERO, and it was a huge success!

But the story doesn’t end there. Steve had a good friend, Mike Brocato, who passed away from prostate cancer the same week that Mark was diagnosed. Mark, Karon, and Steve wanted to honor Mike and ensure that his family knew there was an army continuing the fight to end prostate cancer on Mike’s behalf. They then dedicated the money they’d raised from their successful bowling event and donated it to the “Miles for Mike” team at the ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk event.

On the morning of the 2018 race, Mark presented a check for $4,000. Mike’s wife, Fran, was overwhelmed and touched by the generosity of the Kramskys and all 88 members of their team who came out to honor Mike. Team “Miles for Mike” was also the largest fundraising team at the race, raising a total of $10,125!

The Kramskys and the “Miles for Mike” team show us that together, we are stronger! Joining together to end prostate cancer is essential to ending this disease once and for all.
