Living Will, Hospice and Palliative Care
It is important to put some thought into developing a living will and what hospice and palliative care may offer you.
For more information about advance directives and wills:
Hospice is a special concept of care designed to provide comfort and support to patients and their families when a life-limiting illness no longer responds to cure-oriented treatments. Hospice care neither prolongs life nor hastens death. Hospice staff and volunteers offer a specialized knowledge of medical care, including pain management.
Palliative care specializes in the relief of the pain, symptoms and stress of serious illness. The goal is to improve quality of life for patients and their families. It is appropriate at any point in an illness and can be delivered along with curative and life-prolonging treatment.
