Matching Gifts
Many companies (both large and small) offer employee matching gift programs. This means that when an employee makes a donation to a non-profit organization, the corporation will “match” that donation with an equal (or greater) amount to the same group. Many donors may work for companies with matching gift programs and can double the impact of their donation by soliciting a matching gift from their employer.
Here are the steps in the matching gift process:
- Confirm that the company you are applying with will match for ZERO — The End of Prostate Cancer. Our 501(c)(3) number (also known as our EIN or employer identification number) is 59-3400922.
- The donor makes a donation (either online or via mail) and then initiates the matching gift process with their company. Most matching gift companies have either a paper matching gift process or an online matching gift process. Please read the instructions below for the appropriate process.
Paper Matching Gift Process: If a matching gift company has a paper matching gift process, then the donor must obtain a matching gift form from the matching gift company and complete the donor section. Online Matching Gift Process: If a matching gift company has an online matching gift process, then the donor must complete the matching gift process through the matching gift company’s website. Important note for donors processing matching gift forms online: If the matching company has an online matching gifts process, the donor may have to note the name of the participant s/he is supporting. There is typically a line titled “gift designation,” “purpose section” or “notes” on the online matching gift form where this information can be added. Adding this information is required for the appropriate participant to receive credit for the matching gift.
If the online matching gift is processed using EasyMatch, the matching company will forward the matching gift form to ZERO — The End of Prostate Cancer directly. For all other types of online matching gift processes, please contact the matching company for the next steps. - Step Three: It can take approximately eight weeks for ZERO — The End of Prostate Cancer to process the matching gift form. Once the matching gift form has been processed, it can be applied to your fundraising page or the person’s fundraising page you are supporting.
Gifts of Stock
Giving a gift of publicly traded stock that has increased in value and that you have owned for more than one year may provide greater tax benefits than giving cash. Your charitable income tax deduction is equal to the fair market value of the stock and you avoid paying the capital gains tax on any increase in the current value over the original cost of the stock. You may also save by not incurring brokerage fees because you are transferring ownership rather than selling the stock.

Planned Giving
You can support ZERO — The End of Prostate Cancer in a variety of ways, including through your estate. Including ZERO in your estate plan will not only assist you in reaching and achieving your own philanthropic and charitable giving goals, but it will also allow ZERO to continue its mission of ending prostate cancer.
There are many charitable planned giving options available to you. For example, you can make a planned gift to ZERO by naming ZERO as a beneficiary of your last will and testament, life insurance policy or retirement plan.
You can also name ZERO as a beneficiary of a charitable trust. Your attorney or financial advisor can advise you of the various types of charitable trusts and assist you in establishing a trust that is tailored to your personal needs.
Some of the above-mentioned planned giving strategies may have a greater tax benefit to you than others, so please consult with your attorney or financial advisor on which strategy would work best for you.
